i-Ready End of the Year Assessment

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We will be administering the end of year i-Ready Diagnostic exams on Wednesday,  June 3rd at 9:00 am for Math and Wednesday, June 10th at 9:00 am for ELA.  The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is to see growth from the beginning of year and determine how to best support their learning when we return in September.

What can I do to help?

To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:

  • Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment
  • Have your child take the test in a quiet place where they can focus
  • Explain the importance of taking their time on each question and not rushing
  • Explain there will be questions they don’t know and to just try their best on those questions
  • Use paper and pencil to show work for all math questions
  • I-Ready will flag any student who rushes through the test so it is important for your child to take their time on every question.
  • For math problems, students must work out each question. Students should not complete any mental math

Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning!

Letter to Seniors From Superintendent Litt

Seniors… Oh Yes You Can… You Earned it!!!

As I wrote when we originally had to close in March, no one expected this, we had no real warning and you did nothing wrong. Yet suddenly your entire life and the lives of your families were changed drastically with you being home every day. Of course, the real tragedy came to those who lost loved ones as a result of the virus. I am eternally proud and grateful to all our wonderful teachers, support staff, administrators, students and parents. I am truly honored to serve you!!!

So…in recognition of all your achievements in your grades before reaching 8th grade, and in recognition for the reports received from your teachers that you participated in “virtual learning” in your homes, and mostly because you are truly loved…

I have authorized a virtual graduation for our 8th graders. You will graduate in your homes.

Principals will make arrangements to have students pick up caps and gowns on a specific date and time in the entrance of their buildings.

Principals will also notify parents as to the date and time for students to return textbooks and computers, so that you may receive your final grades. Note: 8th graders must return all textbooks and computers before their records will be sent to the high schools.

Congratulations. It was a joy serving all of you and your parents. Please… do me one favor… when you find your place in the world and after you graduate college or enter the world of work… just make this world a better place.

With love and respect,

Jeff Litt
